I have a very unromantic story for you.
It isn’t filled rose petals, a musical featuring my love life, or an earth-shattering first kiss. It’s one that involves an app called Tinder, and an amazing man called Brett.
Intrigued? Read on!
So, you’ve probably guessed it, but yes, it’s true… I met my fiancé on Tinder.
We swiped on one another and talked about poetry, school, and good food in our area.
After a week of talking, stalking on Facebook, and a two-hour phone call we decided to meet at our local Tim Hortons for coffee.
Brett was the first person I had ever met online before, so I was incredibly nervous and a little bit paranoid.
Dating online is scary, and there are risks (please don’t be stupid and always meet in a public place).
So I asked my brother to come along on the date…yes, I really did that.
We had a plan, secret signals, and an escape route just in case Brett was a creep, murderer, or just plain weird (sorry, babe).
I had told Brett I would meet him at Tim Hortons at 3pm, but my brother and I arrived at 2:30pm to ensure he wouldn’t see the two of us come in.
I sat down at one end of the cafe and my brother sat on the other. We could see each other but there was enough distance that he (my brother) couldn’t actually hear the date.
So this may sound weird, but it gets even weirder.
Brett and I hit it off immediately. Halfway through I honestly forgot that we had met online, it felt so natural.
We were laughing away when Brett turned to me and said,
”I know this might be weird, but I think my parents just walked in.”
Yes…so now not only was my brother in the Tim Hortons but so was Brett’s parents and eldest brother.
His parents walked over and introduced themselves, and at this point, I confessed that my brother was over there in the corner of the cafe.
Everything turned out fine, but it sure is a fun story to tell. You don’t often think you’ll meet the whole family on the first date… after swiping on Tinder!
